Memory Ram 8 Gb 4.96 Usable Windows Update
Ive seen several questions that are similar but the answer to those is something that I cannot do. I have a new twist.I just built a new machine, and installed 4GB of ram on my machine, and everything was fine. But now I have installed 4 more Gigs, and my system info under computerproperties reads like this.Processor: Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHzInstalled memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.99 GB usable)NOTE: There is NO memory remap option in my bios. I have called the manufacturer of my motherboard, and they have told me that it comes installed and set to 'ON' automatically, and there is no option to turn it off if I need to. The BIOS does recognizeall 8gb of ram.QUOTE from mobo Tech Support: (edited for readability). The ASRock model you have has already Memory Remap Feature enabled under BIOS (hidden) 'Here is my hardware info:Processor: i5 760Mobo: Asrock H55M-GE (not the R2 version)RAM: 2gbx4 KingstonHDD: 640 Gig Sata Caviar BlackVid card: Nvidia ENGTX 460OS: Windows 7 home premium x64 - System builders editionFixes Ive tried:1. Memory Remap: none in bios, BUT the bios DOES recognize 8gb of ram, and the tech support from the manufacturer went through it with me and told me that it was NOT a motherboard issue.2.
System Repair: I performed a system repair, and it didnt work. So then I reformatted and did a clean install of OS, didnt work, finally I did another clean reinstall, and still didnt work. (did full windows update each time too.)3. Moving ram chips around: Ive tried moving the ram chips around and starting computer after each move to see if it worked. Yes, ive tried each permutation of positions for the ram chips.4.
MSCONFIG: Ive gone into MSconfig, and tried both clicking on and off on the 'maximum Memory' radio button. It is at off by default, and when I tried to click it on, I would click it on, and it would show the right amount of memory, but when I clicked'accept' and 'OK' to get out, (tried with and without restart) it would go back to being unckecked with a greyed out 0 in the space.5. BIOS: Ive verified that my BIOS is fully up to date. Version 1.36. I have run Mem-test and found no errors.7. Have reset CMOSOther things to know:1. Performance monitor only sees roughly 3086 MB of memory (system properties DOES see the 8GB, but says half of it is not usable)2.

Ive gotten verification that the OS supports 16 GB, so my 8gb should be no problem.4. On Booting from a Linux Disk, I tried 2 commands: Free -m, and lshw -C memoryFree -m Displayed the following values:Total 3280, Use 131, Free 3149, shared 0, Buffers 4, Cached 30, -/+ buffers cached: Used 95, free 3185lshw -C memory Displayed the following values:.-memory Desc System memory, Physical Id 11, Slot Systemboard/motherboard,Size: 8gbBanks 0,1,2,3 all showed 2gb of ramPlease help.
